Anyone who knows me is aware that I am a huge Wahlberg fan. It started in the summer of 1988, I believe. I was at my cousin’s house, she brought me into her room and pointed to a magazine picture that hung on her wall of five boys. She told me, “These are the New Kids on the Block and you have to pick one.” I was eight years old at the time. I had never heard of the New Kids on the Block before, at the time I was still listening to oldies music with my mom. She insisted I pick one because “You cannot have them all.” So I used the only decision making skill that I had at the time and started with…eeny, meeny, miny, moe…but I must have hovered around Jordan too long because the next thing I knew I was in a head lock. She said, “I could have any one of them but not him.” Gasping for air I told her, “the blonde one was kind of cute.” She loosened her grip just a little and said “Donnie.” I said, “You can call him whatever you want if you let me go. He’s my favorite!”
More than 20 years later, getting to meet Donnie was very exciting. On September 26, 2008 I met all 5 New Kids at their Meet and Greet in Boston. There were so many people there that we didn’t get to spend much time with them but any time was good enough. A couple of months later, thanks to www.liveautographs.com, I received an autographed poster from all 5 guys and a video from Donnie wishing me a happy birthday.
